Once upon a time there was more need to discuss actual Mac tips & deals. That ain't the case anymore.

In answer to Buzz's question and strictly my own ghastly opinion *(:>*
Vote to make a sub forum ... "Neurotic Mac" would accomodate people with tunnel vision. Just a thought ![]() ![]() Ironmac would like to change the forum format.... Tips and Deals' Thread Pollution Posted by: IronMac [PM] [Ignore this user] Date: May 17, 2011 05:02PM I know that some of the threads are amusing and informative but is it possible to have another subforum for those sort of topics? I mean, this is supposed to be Tips and Deals but it seems that more and more there are these off-topics threads nowadays. Thanks.

Hell, I come here largely because it's not just mac and deal/tip related all the time. I can easily skip the threads about the new iMacs or iPhones since I know it will be a while before I even entertain thoughts about new hardware.
On the other hand, this is a very diverse group and sometimes I may want a new recipe or opinion on a movie or thoughts on a tool purchase, and yet don't want to bother with registering on yet another, more specialized forum just for a quick "hit and run". There are many folks here whose opinions I respect. That said, I admit it is sometimes annoying to find a cryptic subject line and have the content simply be a link to somewhere else. If you're going to tease me, at least give me a hint about the link or a few lines of the article. And I'm embarrassed to say, I keep forgetting about that "follow topic" feature. Guess I should look into how it works...

IronMac wrote: Thanks, there's a LOT of hostility on this forum at times. Yeah, I think one of the reasons for my posting this thread is that recently I have been wasting a lot of time trying to figure out obscure thread titles and wondering if it's worth clicking on them... Just wanted everyone to read this again. I left the other board back in the day, I love this place, I love the "chatting" AND the MacAdvice, and with a teensy bit of consideration (like better thread titles, less douchebaggery) it'd improve 200%.

I have gotten static for it but I try to be courteous and mark mine OT for non tips and deals.
If you get down to it, tips and deals does not automatically indicate the topics should be about Macs or Apple products. At least with the OT you can skip over it as you scan topics. I hope they don't change anything, that is what killed the other forum. The spice is in the mix IMHO. |
