Be prepared to hear a lot of irritating New Age chatter about the planets being in alignment over the next few days, because some of them actually will be.

Venus and Jupiter have been lighting up the evening skies in the last few weeks and are drawing closer and closer together, until Venus passes just 3 degrees north of Jupiter between 12 to 15 March.

Venus, below, moon and Jupiter, above, as seen February 26, 2012 in Manila, Philippines by Jv Noriega. Jupiter and Venus will be closest in mid-March. The moon will sweep near them again in late March 2012.

If you have an iOS device, RYF and purchase the wonderful Night Sky app for only $.99.

Just aim your i-thingy at the sky (it even works on cloudy days or indoors) and it will tell you what stars and planets are up in the heavens.

We had Little Poochie's Cub Scout Den and their parents battling over who gets to aim my iPhone at the night sky during a recent cookout.

I've been trying to get a decent shot with my SX40 but haven't had any luck yet. Maybe tonight.
