Now you can quickly and easily turn just about any Mac into a powerful server that’s perfect for home offices, businesses, schools, and hobbyists alike. Lion Server is coming to the Mac App Store in July for $49.99.

Wow, I'll do that if I can get my Hac to run it. That would come in handy.

According to the "How to Buy" link at that link above, you also need to have 10.6 Server and 10.7 already present. Definitely wouldn't be just $49 for me.

I think you meant "hide your kids, hide your wife, hide your kids, hide your wife."

Not only that, but my VERY cursory glance at the Lion Server page looks like they ripped the guts out of OSX Server and turned it into a pretty useless shiny happy media and calendar sharing turd...

I could be wrong.. I haven't delved deeply into it yet.

Hardly matters... it'll be at least 3 years before I have a piece of hardware that could even RUN Lion Server at work...

i can understand the need for Server in a business setting - any reason to have it at home?

It seems very timely that HBO was showing "The Ghost and the Darkness" last night and I couldn't turn my TV off. Got to sleep around 5 AM. I had forgotten what a gripping (based on a true event) story that was.

Factor of Ten

Gotta pony up $499 for SL Server... will be curious to see how Apple handles the bait and switch outcry over this. Apple has dropped the cost of Server already w/ SL; unlimited for all at the old 10 user price, w/ substantial discounts available on CL & ebay, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if there ends up being a $250-$300 more direct path for non-SL Server owners to get hooked up to Lion. From what I can glean, Lion is Apple's next big thing to get their hooks directly into users' bank accounts via the App Store, so they'll probably drop the access costs in the predictable entry places.

It sounded to me like Phil said "Lion server is not a separate app, just an add on in Lion"? (About 34/35 minutes into keynote) Seems like you upgrade to Lion and then add server apps, which may be the $50 upgrade?
