I stand corrected, I said I don't eat fast food and just wonder why In & Out doesn't list "Animal Fries" on any outside menu. As I recall they do list it if you go inside and get a printed menu.
It's just a bit of an odd way to sell food.

In & Out has chili/cheese fries that they don't bother listing on the menu, I don't eat any fast food but the kid swears by them.
They dont have chili at In-n-Out. Those are 'animal style' fries. Tommy's Burgers (Los Angeles based) are the ones with the chili.
I don't think Tommy's has chili.
I think they take the stuff that McDonalds scrapes off of their grill at the end of the night and repurpose it with some jalapeños and onions.
Back in the day we called Tommy's "stomach bombs". We knew what we were eating but didn't care.

Which is exactly why the last time I ate Tommy's was back in the day.

In-n-Out, without a doubt.
Especially the "secret" menu. I like that. Separate aficionados from rubes.
I don't like their fries.
No offense, but mikebw doesn't know what he's talking about when describing InO's fries. I don't like them either, but if you did as he described, you'd get nothing like InO's fries. For the record, ordering them well-done vaguely approximates a more traditional french fry, but it's still not very tasty. I go for an InO Double Double and a chocolate shake. No fries. All the important food groups for a skosh over $5.
For good fries-- McDonald's, or Wendy's.
For a great burger and great fries, a little diner called Val's is the very best.

They don't have 5 Guys in my part of the country. Of the available -
In and Out gets top spot.
Carl's Jr. gets first place of the more or less easy to get to places. Jack in the Box followed by, in order, Burger King and McDonalds as my burger jones demands satisfaction.
Best place within a cheap airplane trip goes to Fatburger hands down, and Fatburger would top the list period it didn't require a boarding pass to get to.

I'll eat anybody's burgers and anybody's fries and be gdamn happy I'm eating it. I'll eat the burgers at AM/PM or the hot dogs at 7/11 and enjoy it. I'm not supposed to be eating that stuff so it's all carnal.
In and Out. They're alright. Fries could be better, but I'm not complaining. I'll ketchup 'em, pepper 'em and toss 'em back. They're a little too clean to me. Grunge up the place a bit, it's a burger place. I don't care how nice and serviceable you are. You still work at a burger place. I did my time at Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken as a yute. Minimum wage job.
I'd prefer the 6 dollar burger at Carl's Jr over any of the other fast food burgers. McDonalds has the best fries. Clearly, fries need some kind of "help" from Monsanto. I like their squishy little cheeseburgers too. I like the "mash" based Taco's at Jack in the Box. They have an amazing appetizer menu.
Loved that Steak & Shake someone mentioned during my time in Atlanta. I ate at the Zesto's on Ponce and Monroe a lot (hot wings w/ biscuit with a chocolate yogurt shake).
I high-schooled and young-manned hundreds of Tommy Burgers. The old gut bombs. Lucy's in L.A., I hated their food but I ate it all the time. I couldn't help myself. The menu was so vast I kept having to try new things only to discover it sucked in a satisfying way.
I'm going to grab myself a Nation's Burger (dtn. Oakland) today in support of this thread.

Hasn't Counter expanded all over by now. Damn good, plus choices. Burger salad is my fave. Good interior design.
