Now A real disaster -- Twinkies may be gone
#1
Hostess is threatening to liquidate the company if striking workers don't return to work by 5pm tomorrow.

That would mean no more ho-ho's, twinkles or ding-dongs (at least until whoever buy's the brands can start churning them out)

Hostess Brands - the maker of Twinkies, Wonder Bread and other household-name products - said it would seek this week to liquidate the company unless enough workers stopped striking by the end of the workday on Thursday to allow the company to resume normal operations.

Members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union went on strike Nov. 9 in response to court-approved pay cuts. The company, which has about 18,000 employees, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January.

Hostess said it would file a motion with U.S. Bankruptcy Court in White Plains, N.Y., Friday to close shop and sell its assets if enough employees do not return to work by 5 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday. If the motion is granted, Hostess would begin to close its operations as soon as Nov. 20.

Hostess Chief Executive Gregory Rayburn said the company did not have the financial wherewithal to weather an ongoing strike. A union spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

Haven't eaten a Twinkie since I was a kid.

(I would miss Ding Dongs, though.)

They unfortunately didn't keep up with the times. They needed to come up with new flavors and offer higher fat and sugar content. They worked fine for a skinnier nation, but if we're to grow our obesity rate even higher, we need to go beyond what Hostess offers.

I say shut the doors...
Then the former employees can celebrate getting EXACTLY what they asked for.

Going on strike can be like going to war.

Even if you win you lose.

The 2nd ghost rider movie had a bad guy whose power was to cause anything he touched to decay and die. He touched some dude and he withered and died. He touched an apple and it rotted and disintegrated. The funny part was when he picked up a twinkie and...nothing happened.

I prefer the whole package, personally. No twinkie without the ding-dongs, and vice-versa.
