Mail Won't Search: Advice?
#1
Friends,

Just migrated to a new iMac and brought Mail's database into the new machine.

Search function is behaving strangely. It will search for "to" and "from" specific email addresses, but searching the body or the "entire message" search returns zero results. I did notice that there are partial "entire message" results during the time that the system is actively re-indexing spotlight. But, when Spotlight is done, there are no results shown for "entire message" searches.

I rebuilt mailboxes and even deleted Mail's "envelope" files. No luck.

Currently, I'm using HoudaSpot to search Mail, but that is a temporary solution.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was going to suggest verifying Mail and Messages was checkmarked in Spotlight's preferences but just realized it's not necessary: Mail's search works without that checkmark.

Dunno. Quit Mail, reboot?

Same problems here (among many others with Mail) but I am not a new user and the problems are not new. Will be watching this thread for further suggestions.

Try rebuilding the Spotlight index. IIRC, you can do that using Onyx.

Unfortunately, it seems to be a well-known problem, and none of the solutions I've seen on various forums about rebuilding the Spotlight database have worked for me. My two previous threads on this subject:
