Do the LED equivalents really only provide about half the light?
I have 8 watt LED sylvanias that put out more usable light than the 40 watt incandescent equivalents that they replaced. The heat sinks don't get terribly hot either so the LED operating voltage shouldn't be cranked up too terribly high . A neat trick some man. are employing but most likely will shorten life.

the one posted is an remodel insert light - you still need to have the recessed can installed.

I just purchased something similar to these at Costco for $25 each and they work great. They're bright (much brighter than the incandescent bulbs they replace) and can even be dimmed. They are just replacements for existing cans.
