Adding more subforums - UPDATE - NOT CHANGING
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Bell

Arthur William "Art" Bell, III (born June 17, 1945) is an American broadcaster and author known primarily as one of the founders and the original host of the paranormal-themed radio program Coast to Coast AM.[3] He also created and formerly hosted its companion show Dreamland. Semi-retired from Coast to Coast AM since 2003, he hosted the show many weekends for the following four years. He announced his retirement from weekend hosting on July 1, 2007, but occasionally serves as a guest host. He attributed the reason for this latest retirement to a desire to spend time with his new wife and his daughter, born May 30, 2007. He added that unlike his previous "retirements," this one will stand, while leaving open the option to return. Classic Bell-hosted episodes of Coast to Coast AM can be heard in some markets on Saturday nights under the name Somewhere in Time.

Bell founded and was the original owner of Pahrump, Nevada-based radio station KNYE 95.1 FM. His broadcast studio and transmitter were located near his home in Pahrump while he hosted Coast to Coast AM except from June to December 2006, when he lived in the Philippines. He returned to the Philippines March 10, 2009 with his family after having significant difficulties obtaining a U.S. visa for his wife Airyn.[4]

Thanks for the heads up Dennis *(:>*

As a former active poster & now a mere lurker, I say NO to fragmentation.

You guys (sekker/davester) are being played. What I'm referring to are the folks who want =only= to get the ranting forum shut down because they perceive it to be left-leaning. So they intentionally provoke and provoke until they have a reason to hammer the "report' link and complain to Larry directly that everyone's mean to them. The characterization that moderation resources are being devoted to people who are thin-skinned crybabies is not an accurate portrayal of who may be causing headaches and why they're doing it.

In another thread on the other side, you made some comments regarding some sort of privileged information you received about how the powers that be (I have to presume you mean people like Larry) were in some sort of support of right-wing causes. You also chose not to disclose your source. Then you have been making claims that some sort of concerted effort is being made to shut down the political forum and now you're upset about it.

But you need to pause before you attempt to insinuate that I'm some sort of tattle-tale or whiner who runs to "moderators" simply because someone disagrees with me.

I'll let you take it up with the moderators yourself and you can ask them if I've ever "reported" someone on a thread because they disagreed with me or called me names - and moderators have my blessing to release that such information about my membership in these forums.

That said, it bothers me little if the political forum were to go away. I enjoy the discourse and the pig-headed debate and, unlike you, I don't hold the disagreement in the other forum and let it spoil my fun on this side (as you have allowed whatever hatred you hold for me to cloud your postings in response to mine on this side). If the political forum departed, I still would have my real-world conversations and debates. The difference in my real-world is that I get to engage with a wide disparity of positions amongst people who may not agree on all issues but who know how to get along and try to understand each other and the competing positions/arguments. Here it's mainly left-wing liberals who have little more to say than calling any dissenter names.

"Friendly" Political Forum - Stay or Go, that's up to MR to decide.

Exactly what is going on here. There are certain members on the right who perceive the political side to be left biased. Bunch of horse dookey. When the significant majority of Mac users are left leaning, any political forum is gonna take on that tenor (when you have individuals on both sides of the spectrum express their opinions equivalently, then naturally the forum will take on an 'atmosphere' of the majority).

Hold on a moment, Carnos.

First, you state that it's "horse dookey" that the political side is "left biased." Then you state that "the significant majority of Mac users are left leaning..." Then you go on to say that "any political forum is [going] to take on that tenor [of the majority]. Am I missing something here?

Because you just stated that the significant majority of Mac users are left-biased and the political is going to take on the tenor of that majority - meaning that the political forum IS left-biased.

How is that "horse dookey"?

Facing this fact, they've (openly in the past) declared it's their mission to get the political side shut down, and they do it just like Black described. In the end, they will have just played the system.

Who is this "they"? And why don't you expose them?

You guys sound as paranoid as those people talking about "Black Helicopters"...

If I remember my DM history...

There was lots of uproar because of post and thread "pulling," primarily OT ones.

Splitting up the forum into sub-forums was the solution to allowing OT posting to remain, that DM came up with so many sub-forums seemed like a forum killer to me.

Mass migration ensued as the sub-forums were put into place.

As I had suspected and was confirmed to me by a DM moderator, LafeyettePete and Slash were scheming the complaint system by triggering the thread auto pull with repeated complaints from themselves and their sock puppets.

It is possible for just a couple of folks to búgger the system and Howard may be on the right track. It does seem like a new monophonic troll shows up whenever one gets banned on the "Friendly side."

OWCLarry, I enjoyed meeting you all those years ago at a SFMacWorld and appreciate any/all resources you have devoted to these forums. I'd like to see you personally drop by the "Friendly" side from time to time and call out some of the jerks yourself. Leadership from the top so to speak?

Anyhow, if MRF dissolves, I am hopeful that the "hive" will find another place to inhabit. No matter how I feel about the individual poster, I somehow find it comforting to be among the same cast of characters that have populated my online world for so long.

I will miss you all if the hive dissolves...

I vote that that Mac-A-Matic and Black be given their own private forum where they can go at each other for now and all eternity.

If this is still being followed, maybe the political forum needs to be turned into a real name only posting forum. No handles. Just like in nreal life, in a face to face you know the other person, and there would be accountability for one's posts.

I agree. Requiring people to use real names can have a moderating effect. However, the only way a forum where controversial topics are discussed can succeed is by enforcing strict rules of civility, and that means someone has to spend time moderating.
