Thrift Store find du jour: Nintento Wii
#1
Stopped into a thrift store yesterday, always on the lookout for old stereo components & albums.

Saw a Nintendo Wii on the electronics shelf, it was on & hooked up to a small TV. Seems to work OK, no batteries in the Wii Motes, and the sensor bar is missing (but cheap to replace).

The system included 3 games and the Wii Fit board, and 4 remotes.

$21, hope it all works OK. it'll probably be a gift.

Cheaper than a Roku box, and it has a Netflix channel.

great find.

our kids haven't played a wii game for a couple of years - but is serves nearly daily use exclusivally as a netflix box.

The Young Adults ™ pick up the Wii every now and then, and we still use the Wii Fit on occasion. The Yoga balance feature is quite nice. Alas for Nintendo.. the WiiU has pretty well killed them for consoles.

the yoga balance is not easy (for me).

my daughter and her friends were engaged in Just Dance the other night, some games definitely get you moving.

GameCube compatible? Those are great if you want to play your old GameCube games that support progressive scan.

Love the Wii. Only have a dozen or so actual Wii games plus another 9 or ten virtual console games. And all my older GameCube games as well. In addition to Netflix, it supports Amazon Prime, Hulu, and YouTube.

WiiMC looks pretty nice if you want general media and DVD support. You need to hack the Wii of course to add stuff like this. If anyone wants to point me to the easiest guide of getting things like WiiMC and playing games backed up to an external drive, I'd love to read it.

here's a wiki

i'd like any additional links that experienced Wii h@ckerz have used successfully.

Use this to get started:

And if you've got the Lego Indiana Jones game, this is the next step:

All the steps are at the second link. You'll need an external USB hard drive, and a 2GB SD card.
