Yeah. Keep not vaccinating your children, y'all.

A Texas megachurch linked to at least 21 cases of measles has been trying to contain the outbreak by hosting vaccination clinics, officials said.

The outbreak started when a person who contracted measles overseas visited Eagle Mountain International Church in Newark, about 20 miles north of Fort Worth, Texas. Health department officials said those sickened ranged in age from 4-months to 44-years-old. All of the school-age children with measles were homeschooled.

"If it finds a pocket of people who are unimmunized, and the majority of our cases are unimmunized so far, then if you are around a person with measles, you will get sick," Russell Jones, chief epidemiologist for Tarrant County Public Health, said Monday.

In a sermon posted online, senior pastor Terri Pearsons encouraged those who haven't been vaccinated to do so, adding that the Old Testament is "full of precautionary measures."

"I would encourage you to do that. There's absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. Go do it. Go do it. Go do it. And go in faith," said Pearsons, whose father is televangelist Kenneth Copeland. But she added, if "you've got this covered in your household by faith and it crosses your heart of faith then don't go do it.

Sigh.

Doesn't need to be moved. A measles outbreak of this type isn't political.

For two years now, we've required TDAP immunizations by 7th grade....
This year, we turned away the 9 students that hadn't turned in proof of immunization. Five or six were admitted to school later in the day on Monday after finally getting the proof, the others are in the process of getting the immunizations - after being told for two years they'd need it.

I am speaking mostly of the parents here, not the 7th graders... the kids are not really responsible.

My only comment was; "About damn time....".

Last year, 24 children died of measles in MN.

All of these deaths were preventable and caused by lack of vaccinations.

This is not a political issue - this is science.

The truly unconscionable aspect is that vaccines are not perfect. So by not vaccinating your children, you put not only your kids but everyone else at risk.

Is this school/district policy or state law - do you know?

Whoa, Nelly. There is also significant evidence that links vaccinations to seizures and health problems.

I think each parent has to make a choice based on what they feel is appropriate and deal with the consequences.

My point is that you don't have to be an unconscious religious freak to make this choice.

hal; both...
State law is no admittance to school without the TDAP booster for 7th grade, but there's some "wiggle room" for objectors..
District policy takes that wiggle room out by saying they must have either the TDAP proof OR a "Belief waiver" or whatever it's called on file by the first day of school or the kid will be sent home.

Now, this is all just my understanding, of course... I may have some details wrong.

I personally blame Jenny McCarthy and Andrew Wakefield for this. She has no medical training, and he has been stripped of his medical license. Unfortunately, the damage has been done, with the help of Oprah Winfrey, who gave her a platform to speak on. I'm curious what McCarthey is going to say about this when she starts on The View. Not curious enough to start watching it, though.

My daughter has not had the MMR vaccine, but that is b/c she had an anaphylactic reaction just after leaving her 1 year old well-child check-up and receiving the chicken pox vaccine. They have similar preservatives (NOT Thimerosal) and her allergist could not isolate which one caused her throat to close off. We always figured that she would be fine due to herd effect. However, with more people not vaccinating their kids, it is becoming more of a concern.
