Dog Owners, Dog Poop..things that Dog Owners dont think of

I love dogs but I don't own one..I grew up with dogs but now, instead, I have a cat.

I've been observing Dog owners and the results of their little plastic bag etiquette thing.

There's a strip of grass along my building and along the building that makes up the other half of this block.

These strips of grass are very popular with the dog walkers. I take care of my strip of grass..keep the litter out, water it..plant some damn flowers an' shit.

Now.the neighbors, it's a condo building so there's nobody really paying attention... they get a landscape crew on it once a month

BUT,,it wouldn't matter..because dog walkers like this strip and the grass wouldn't stand a chance

Even with their little plastic Dog SHIT bags (which most do use) the dog owners leave a smear of poop on the lawn..most of them..When you walk by you can smell it..the whole strip from Alley to corner STINKs and is infested with flies. I hate parking next to it..you have to jump over the grass strip.

With all the dogs using this strip..the whole plastic bag cleanup thing doesn work..plus all the pee

I really bothers me that Dog Owners feel that it's OK to let their dogs shit on other people's property..even if they "clean" it up..because they dont really clean it up..they leave smears and the dogs also Pee (piss) on the lawns..which can be worse...it kills grass faster than the poopshit.

I find it to be BOGUST, thoughtless, inconsiderate, selfish...dog owners dont even blink an eye when their dogs pee on the door stoops on my building (which are flush with the sidewalk)..TOTALLY BOGUE.

When I reprimand folks who are about to let their dog crap and pee on my grassy knoll It's astonishing how clueless their responses are...They say they'll clean it up//I say "All of it?" and sometimes I'll point out my neighbor's issue...They're like.."Wow, I never noticed that... buuut my dog poops in big chunks and it doesn't SMEAR"

sounds like you need that strip paved over and some plant pots taller than the dogs legs that frequent that strip

Really..dig out my grass (125' x 3' with several walkways to the curb) and pay a concrete crew to pave it? Then put potted plants there so they can get in the way of people opening their car doors when they park?

I think a behavior elevation on the part of doggy owners is what needs to happen, a revolution.

Put up a little sign that says the grass has been poison sprayed for weeds and bugs. No children or pets. Danger Danger

It's funny. Just yesterday I was telling my kids that cat owners just let their cats roam freely and poop wherever they want and that's why they don't always come home. Now I know this isn't true for everyone. Some keep their cats inside all of the time. But there are lots of cats roaming the neighborhood doing their business where they may want to. So the problem isn't limited to dog owners.

All of that said I feel for you. I am a dog owner, I walk my dog every night, and sometimes she poops in someone's lawn and I clean it up. I never thought of it as a problem but in a highly trafficked area it certainly would be a problem.

During my nightly walk with the dog I've noticed some yard have a low hedge surrounding the grass which prevents dogs from doing their business at that location. Smart. It sounds like you might not have the space for that solution though. Given that the grass is unusable perhaps it might be easier to simply pave it or gravel it. Sucks and I sympathize.

They should absolutely try to do that...Or, learn the critters to crap in the alley or at the curb..it is very doable..however laziness rules.

The self entitlement thing on the part of dog owners is heavy here..Property owners should not have to subsidize dog owners..be expected to gracefully allow folk's dogs to crap and pee on their property because some person decided they needed a puppy. And, That IS the way it is..
