How / when did you discover Dealmac?

Since Dealmac is coming to an end, I thought it might be fun to review how we all got together.

I was shopping for a new computer in 1997 and spent a lot of time on a forum for Power Computing users that was started by the same guy that founded dpreview (which took off right as PCC lost their Apple license and the forum died a little while later)

On that forum, someone mentioned the existence of dealmac and it soon became a daily reader that lasted for YEARS - longer than any other site I can think of...

anyway, how did you discover dealmac (and later the dealmac forum and then this one)?

'97 ish.

I don't remember- maybe 2000, 2001.

Not sure, but my earliest recollection is browsing the page with a text-based Lynx browser on a vertical black-and-white monitor atop a IIcx I got at an auction for $5 or something, over a dial-up FreeNet. That would have been in 1999 or so, about the same time I discovered eBay.

I remember submitting a deal I had found for for a game bundle of some sort.

It was '99 or '00 for me.
I think I had my 8500 at the time, and was having fun trying to upgrade the RAM in that service-nightmare.

I think about 2000 as well.... looking for a new monitor.

pretty early on, don't remember the exact year. Probably from the same guy in the MUG I belonged to who had turned me on to eBay.

Somewhere in the '99 / '00 range while at university.

Probably around '98 or '99. I know which house we lived in (97-2001) and that I was using my Power Computing PowerBase. I believe my last post is still on the last archived forum page (about replacing the attic stairs of my former house).
