Gave up diet soda: follow up

Our beverage of choice is 100 percent pure cranberry juice (no added sugar) from Trader Joe's, sweetened with Sweet Leaf liquid stevia, very tasty.

I drink a lot of Poland Spring orange flavored seltzer. For real kicks i do half and half that with some ginger ale, with a dash of angostura bitters. I call that a Methodist Cocktail.
Haven't had a Coke or Pepsi, diet or other wise, for years.

Now if I could just get rid of sugar in my coffee…

I've been nothing but (well, a few sips of some things perhaps) water since Dec 2005. I take (just moments ago, too) calcium chews to make up for less milk intake. I grew up drinking probably 90% coca cola as a child. It didn't make me overweight, though. Sedate WORK did, imo. By Feb 2006 I had lost 50+ pounds. Also had eliminated snacks; in-between food, most meats, etc. though. Just remember to eat healthy, though.

Joint pain and swelling in my hands and knees, which disappeared two days after I stopped drinking diet pot, is still absent.

And, I've lost 4 pounds. I don't feel as hungry.

Diet pot?

I've given up caffeine a few times (coincident with low-carb dieting) with no issues. I can't seem the shake the diet pop habit, though. Maybe I'll give the seltzer a try. Can you make this with Sodastream machines? I don't have one, but that would be a good reason to buy one. I heard a rumor that Scarlett Johannson will come to your house to help you set it up.

It's specially bred pot that doesn't give you the munchies.

It's just the fiber portion of hemp. I.e., rope.

Lux,

That's actually what Sodastream machines do. They make carbonated water. Flavorings and such are added after the water is carbonated. I'd by a few bottles of seltzer from the local supermarket before investing in a SodaStream system. Seltzer from one company or another is always on sale and can be had dirt cheap.

If you truly drink a lot of it, then it may make sense to invest in the machine. There are people in the forum who have Sodastream machines and are happy with them. But, I remember seeing a thread where a member had a problem with one. I think a bottle went kablooey in the carbonation process or something along those lines. Definitely search the forum about it.

It surprises me how many adults seem to be completely addicted to these very unhealthy and calorie packed drinks, and how many parents allow their children to drink mass quantities of the nasty stuff.

You mean like Starbucks?

How much Zero did you drink in a day?

Like Robert, when Im craving something sweet -- I use the instant drinks, MiO, crystal light, etc -- and enjoy them. So many great flavors. CL Lemon Ice tea is my go to. But its really sweet. I usually cut the mixture by 1/2.

Starbucks too. I used to drink a lot of coffee at work when I was younger but quit in my 30s when I realized that it was causing negative health effects. I'm down to about one coffee a month these days.

What is Zero?

I'm a bit puzzled by the number of posts here about craving sweet drinks, since I don't think I ever have that craving and I find most of the soft drinks available to be too sickly sweet. I'm wondering if it's an addiction from having a diet that has too much sugar in it. That is certainly a problem in the US, especially for folks who eat and drink lots of packaged foods. There's too much sugar in virtually every factory-prepared food that comes in a box or can. One thing that always amazes (and disgusts) me is that when I stop along the highway and go into the 7-11 or gas station store to get something to drink, there is seldom anything reasonable to drink. Everything available is packed with sugar, corn syrup, caffeine and preservatives.
