Tripp was indicted for wiretapping in Maryland, but Starr had granted her immunity from federal prosecution in return for handing the tapes over to his investigation, so basically the evidence against her was not available to the prosecution. So the charges were dropped.

As a private citizen, I'm free to give all the weight I wish to give to hearsay and illegally obtained evidence. Those things only matter in court. An NBA owners meeting is not court.
