It is almost certain that the man who killed Foley is a British national, from London.
Yes, I was just seeing that on the BBC.
Maybe the UK should bomb itself?

Domestic surveillance rules are quite different in the UK. Brits have more rights to privacy than Yanks.
But perhaps the Brits would consider bombing Raqqa.
not sure how that comment follows from what I wrote, which was a joke, just FYI. . There are quite a few serious concerns over domestic spying in the UK as well...they have their own NSA thing going on.
"Recent disclosures over domestic surveillance and GCHQ spying on citizens aren't much of an issue to the public, according to Prime Minister David Cameron.
Speaking to Parliament on the government's National Security Strategy, the Prime Minister said that while the media has made a stink about Edward Snowden's disclosures on domestic spying and data mining programs, the general public is largely in favor of the government.
"My sense is that the pub reaction, as opposed to some of the media reaction is 'look, we have intelligence and security because it is a dangerous world and there are bad people that want to do terrible things to us, and we should support these intelligence services and the work they do," Cameron told Parliament,
"I think the public's reaction, what I have felt in terms of people's reactions, have been pretty robust."
The comments came amidst a discussion between the Prime Minister and a joint committee on on the National Security Strategy discussing both UK domestic security policy and strategy for handling international relations and external threats.
Domestic spying programs in the US and UK have been thrust into the spotlight in recent months amidst the continued flow of media leaks from Snowden, the form..." etc.

US Special forces did a rescue incursion that failed, what else would you right wing whack jobs have us do?
Shades of Jimmy Carter!
Here's what we should do: We should partner with the Kurds and anyone else who will help and utterly destroy ISIS/ISIL.
Turn about is fair play: What would you moonbats have us do? Sit back and watch while ISIS takes over all of the Sunni Arab world, and sends its robotic Western converts to infiltrate and terrorize the 'infidel' nations?

You've got that last part completely backwards. The 3 jihadis who just executed this journalist are BRITS. They were raised and radicalized in London, and went to Syria and elsewhere to do their thing.
Also, like al Qaeda before it, ISIS is not a static group of people you can exterminate. ISIS is an ideology, a perverse, twisted idea of Islam.
You can't bomb, capture, or kill an ideology, you can only hope that it's followers, present and future, come up with something better to do with their time. Extremism will always be around - I suspect that in a year or two we won't even be discussing ISIS, but some other group will have taken their place. The best thing we can do is help the region grow economically, so that people have hope, and support political stability that reflects what the people actually want.
We can identify and arrest the specific people who did this terrible crime, and we will. But they will be martyrs for their cause, it won't be a deterrent.

You mean "looney left land"? Probably not. There is only so much time in the day. I do comment on other forums, I have my own (neglected) blogs to attend to, I still have actual work to do, and I am way behind cleaning out years of accumulated stuff, both business and personal, in the house. And I'm not going to change any minds here, methinks.

And if allowed to, they will be back to Britain.

If we don't destroy (decimate, ruin, incapacitate, etc.) ISIS, they will indeed be around, running an Islamo-fascist state over the entire Levant, one that will make even the Iranian theocrats look like pussycats. Head-in-the-sand is what led to WWII.

This is a joke, right? Have you been to London since 9/11? You're on camera EVERYWHERE, 24/7.

Tories are always going to say that the public favors outrageous intrusions. Same as any government official over here.

You're not going to change minds anywhere. Not on the other forums, not on your blogs. If you think you will, you're fantasizing.
I really would like to know how much thought you and DP have put into this idea of "destroying" ISIS. Yes - the knee-jerk impulse to wipe them out completely is very tempting. I feel the same way. But if you think about exactly what would need to be done to even TRY such a thing, if you really think about the practical realities, well, I don't think you have.
