Rumor: U2 to play Apple’s Sept. 9 Event
#1
SFGate

According to journalists in Ireland, the band has been rumored to have shot a music video in Dublin starring the next generation iPhone, 9to5Mac.com reported.

Adding to the gossip, U2 is widely believed to be releasing a new album this year, with the first single set to drop Tuesday — convenient timing, many have noted.

Reports out of Cupertino indicate some sort of elaborate sound stage is being constructed at the event’s site, according to Cult of Mac, another Apple blog, lending more credibility to the U2 rumors.

I feel like their last album is still barely off of the presses.

I can't help but feel that bands like U2, Pearl Jam, Coldplay ultimately hurt their image by allowing themselves to be coopted for commercial purposes. At the very least, there are songs by all three bands that I think are commercials every time I hear them because I first heard them on iTunes TV spots.

Pearl Jam was co-opted for commercial purposes? I thought they tended to shy away from the same deals. Wait, they were in a Target commercial or something?

I'm a little disappointed that the edifice is just a sound stage. Not much else it could be if you think about it, but it seems kind of mundane for all the secrecy hype.

do you know how much Beatles merchandise was licensed when they were popular?

didn't hurt them, did it?

Actually, it's been 5 years. I can't believe it's been that long, but it has. Saw them on both legs of the 360 tour, two years apart.
