Educate me, if you use these. Is this a good way to distribute cable content in my household? Or is it really best when you use an iPad on the road?

One of mine is this exact model - excellent model, and includes an OTA tuner, unlike the newer models. The quality is the same.

Yes, the content is great/HD on any device within the household; however, only one person can be streaming at a time (that's how it always has been, if not then content providers would have attempted to come down hard on Sling Media years ago).

At this price, I would definitely get another one or gift...thanks for the heads up.

My SimpleTV streams to multiple devices. Not sure why content providers would allow it to do so, but not the Slingbox. Maybe the Slingbox doesn't have the hardware to handle simultaneous streams.

Ok, if I have this upstairs in my household, what do I need to have it stream down to the basement television? Does an AppleTV work?

EDIT: Ok, might work via Airplay.

This model doesn't even work with Chromecast (bummer, as I have one on the shelf unused).

EDIT 2: I think I'm going to get this and have my son connect it to his OTA antenna in the Twin Cities. If he gets decent local signals, I could watch that here in SE MN (where I have shoddy OTA TV).

Would be like my own Aereo system!

Interesting deal - note this refurb only has a 30 day warranty, and I've read some complaints about the machine breaking after the warranty expires. I would seriously consider the 2 year Square Trade warranty for $16.98.

I'm seriously tempted with this offer, but I'm also considering the Tivo Stream - now $130 new, though I've seen this on sale for $99 in the past.

I purchased with my AmEx card. Gives me a little more time.

I didn't think AMEX covered refurbs?

SimpleTV is a nice product, but only serves up OTA (for ~$150). Slingboxes allow you to serve up virtually any content from any device (OTA, Cable, Satellite, DVD/VCR, Video cameras, audio components, etc...whatever you want to hook up to it - and you can have multiple devices, and just switch the input, as-needed).

You also have to have a premier subscription ($60/yr or $150 for a lifetime) to have more/advanced features, which includes the much-desired ability to stream outside the home to your device or computer.

So for $50, this a very good deal - and they've been around for 10 years.
