Nice discussion of Helv Neue as a UI font
#1

Good explanation of why it's not a great choice as a UI font. I switched to Fira Sans as soon as I found out how to do it. Have also restored Lucida Grande on one Yosemite drive.

Has anyone ever figured out how to solve the problem caused by having actual Helvetica Neue (from Linotype) also installed on your machine? There are a lot of websites I can't read in Chrome because all the letters become As in round-cornered boxes.

Thanks! I think the flat UI and boring font makes Yosemite look "cheap".

I'm not sure i'd take font advice based on the font chosen by that web site.

Mr. Downtown - I have the same problem. I bet you are using a third party font manager. I have not found a solution yet.

My reaction exactly. If you're going to preach about design issues you'd better have your own house in order.

What does that website's choice of fonts have to do with choosing fonts for an OS?

ka, thanks for the link.

I'm just starting the article, but already I want the San Francisco font.

Mainly because it's not longer available LOL!

Because the same reasons that Helvetica Neue is criticized as an OS font (legibility and readability are less than ideal on small sizes at screen resolutions) are shared by the god awful body font chosen by this particular website.

I don't have any trouble reading the body font on that page. It is perfectly legible on my monitor, and whoever built the site isn't subjecting you to grey-on-grey or even worse, light type on a black background.. It is similar to quite a few other Sans fonts that I have seen lately, which are not really my cup of tea, but seem to be pretty popular at the moment. But hey, let's focus on that instead of the very valid points about Yosemite's UI problems.
