Wow! Terrible experience to go through!
I'm glad it didn't turn out worse, and your daughter is safe.
Speedy, if you happened to catch these two A-holes alone, what do you think you would do? :bat:

Now that was funny! That dad could have had his daughter waiting on him hand and foot if he had threatened to post it rather than actually post it to YouTube.

Had I been walking in on that, they would have outrun me in a second. At my 195 versus each of their 115 pounds, if I had managed to grab one of them, the other would probably have returned and then, between the two of them, beat me senseless. Nope, I would have scared them off, asked my daughter if she was okay, then taken out my iPhone and tried to chase after them and get some pics for identification as they easily put distance between me and them.
One of the cops told me when I first approached and identified myself to not go anywhere near the cuffed guys, pointing to near the mall wall as a place to walk around to where my daughter was.

glad to hear she is OK. Those Somalis... I just watched Captain Phillips recently. wow...
Uh, what now?
My only reason in pointing out their ethnicity was that likely all of the Somali residents in our community of that age were not born here and also likely have close family ties in Somalia that they could call.
The Somali immigrants we have are harassed and not made welcome by our very white population. The school district has done very little to aid in their assimilation into the classroom and last week there was a peaceful protest outside a local high school because of the harassment they suffer. I'm glad the parents were protesting because in all my years of going to parent-teacher conferences, sometimes six a year between my two kids, I never once saw a Somali parent.
My daughter, who was in special education (math IQ: 55), had a special education math class in high school that was majority Somali because they lacked the fundamental skills, not the brains. The class was a mess due to the vastly different learning rates. I eventually pulled her from the class because she complained she couldn't learn anything. My daughter was mostly well served, the Somali students were not.

I'm glad she was ok, and did the right thing every time she faced a choice.
The bystanders were kind as well. Doesn't the 5s' touch ID make this kind of thing impossible? I mean, wouldn't it stop theives from being able to access the phone at all? At least there's that bright side. I'm still chugging along with a 4s, so no facy security for me!

I understand. Figured there was a reason behind explaining their ethnicity. Like calling home and racking up minutes to a special phone line or something. However, I didn't understand what space-time was trying to add.

I believe, but am unsure, that the touch ID as well as a passcode can be overwritten by connecting to iTunes and resetting the phone. It does seem that Find My iPhone must make this more difficult, otherwise why would Apple require someone to disable FMi on their iPhone when Apple has to provide service. She did not have a passcode set but I locked the perps out from using the phone. But they can still reset the phone and likely manage to unlock it from whatever AT&T does to keep us from using it with another carrier.

That's terrible. Forget the phone. Forget the friggin phone.
I'm sorry your daughter had to go through that trauma. Poor thing. Give her all our love and gratitude that she's safe. Bless her sweet heart.
Spoken like a many who recently experienced a close brush with death!

That's hilarious.
I must say, though: I DO NOT UNDERSTAND most people's fascination with selfies. IMHO, one of the downsides of smartphone technology is that it strongly encourages such narcissistic behavior.
