I shot with the SX50 for the first time over the weekend. I have to admit I'm really impressed with the camera. My first impressions are that photos are somewhat sharper than my SX40 and there seems to be a bit more detail in photos overall.

I think Canon is now getting very good at giving consumers cameras that are hard to take crummy photos with at this point. Shooting in RAW really allows all kinds of post processing but I think it's greatest advantage in regards to SX50 photos is the ability to smooth or blur the inherent noise the smaller CCD produces at some ISOs.

I will try to post some photos tonight.

our family really is due for an upgrade.

our Canon EOS 350D is around 10 years old (production ceased in 2005)

I still have and sometimes shoot an *istD. I believe it is 12 year old now.

How did you keep the flight attendents from noticing? And were you over a state where paying for it is legal?

It's stealth shots like that, that make me want to try this camera. Also for fast-moving objects, that my Q sometimes misses because of shutter lag... example: I live in an area that seems to be teeming with dragonflies. When I say "teeming", I really mean it... yet I'd have a hard time to get a decent shot of them with my Q.

Also ... does anyone have any opinions as to any "must have" accessories for this beast?

You guys are even tempting me. The SX50 might be a nice camera for a pro to keep in the car for those just-in-case times you need a 1200mm equivalent hand-held lens.
