Recommendations for replacement MagSafe adapters?
#1
As we all know, Apple's stock adapters tend to fail long before our laptops do. I've bought knock-offs from both Ebay & Amazon, with varied success. I'm just checking to see if any of you have found one that has been reliable over time?

I've bought used from our sponsor and been satisfied.

I've only had one get close to failing, and that is from the Black MacBook I bought back in 2008. So it really depends on how you treat your stuff and possibly the luck of the draw. So I would still recommend the Apple one.

OWC sells refurbished models all the time. For survivability around wild kittehs and puppehs, I put "wire loom" tubing around the low voltage wires. They've survived well as a result.

I've extended the life of strain relief that was beginning to separate with Sugru http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/e976/

On my most recent MBP purchase I put this stuff on the key locations prophylactically.

The big, thick, ugly adapter on my wife's 10-year-old Dell laptop refurb has never given a problem.

I'd buy a big, thick, ugly Apple adapter that would be that durable.

1) I make Frankensteinn adapters by combining parts from two broken ones; I use two such models daily.

2) There are repair parts on Amazon, and I am thinking I will try those if the failure is just the connector.

3) Apple has replaced two of my defective adapters as an extended warranty at an Apple Store.

4) My replacements have come from OWC during a garage sale.

Great item - I would use that plus duck tape/ electrical tape to deal with lightning connectors for my kids' iPhones. I've lost count of the number of official Apple cables they've managed to destroy.

I've replaced the connector cable on a few adapters now - you can buy them on eBay or Amazon for under $10, and solder them in.
