We always have six more weeks of Winter!

So Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow which prognosticates six more weeks of Winter. Hell, it's April here before we can count on a crocus or two popping up...

Yeah, old Phil has only said short winter 17 times out of the 131 years he's been in weather bidness. I think it is. Brrrrrr, low here this morning about 50°, way too cold for me!

Cool. Winter here means highs in the 70s. It's only recently started cooling down... January was mostly highs in the 80s. I need time to get some stuff done outside before it starts warming up again.

Boo. And here in Woodstock where Groundhog Day was filmed 25 years ago, our groundhog concurs with the real Phil. Sad

WOODSTOCK – Woodstock Willie reluctantly clambered out of his tree stump to see his shadow on Thursday, in the process predicting six more weeks of winter.

People of all ages braved the winter chill and traveled to the Woodstock Square just before sunrise to take part in the day's festivities. The event brings more than 100 people together, from Northern Illinois and elsewhere.

Legend has it that if Woodstock Willie sees his shadow on Feb. 2, winter will last six more weeks. But if he doesn't see his shadow, spring will come early.

Woodstock's annual celebration will continue with events that include a pub crawl, free screenings of the Harold Ramis-directed movie and walking tours of the film sites, among others.

So you went to the famous one instead of our own Woody Woodchuck here in Michigan

Woody Woodchuck

Shame on you - Where is your Pure Michigan spirit??? Support local Artists...

Smile

WTH? Just watched the video - that is funny...

If Woody emerges from her house and stays out for 30 seconds or longer, she is indicating an early spring. If she doesn’t come out at all or runs back into her house before the 30 seconds are up, she is forecasting six more weeks of winter.

Winter is still going strong here, best skiing in several years, but avalanche danger has been pretty high. Stuff is sliding that rarely goes:

' East Gros Ventre Butte slid around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, burying Spring Gulch Road in about 8 feet of snow.
The roadway was blocked for about an hour while authorities cleared the snow, according to Teton County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Slade Ross.
Another slide released naturally and covered Highway 89 just north of town around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“That area has been identified as a slide area but it’s been quite some time since it actually slid,” Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Matt Brackin said.
Between 12 and 15 feet of snow buried the highway just north of the Trumpeter Swan Townhomes, completely blocking the road and causing a six-hour cleanup '
