Am I the only one who can't get AirDrop to work? Or is it just as useless for everyone?

Two Macs, one Phone, two iPads....

Never had a god damn one of them successfully "see" any other device, ever...
WiFi is on (same network), Bluetooth is on.

I just upload things to my Google Drive to share them with myself.

I've used it a few times but it is so clunky and time consuming that I've given up on it.

Works for me between iMac and iPhones. Doesn't work on my MacBook for some reasons.

Some tips from Apple:

If you can’t see the other device in AirDrop

If you can't see the person or the device that you're trying to AirDrop to, check the following:

"Check that both of you have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. If either of you have Personal Hotspot on, turn it off.
Make sure that the person you're sending to is nearby. You can't AirDrop to users who are out of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi range.
If the other person’s AirDrop receiving setting is set to Contacts Only, and you’re not in their Contacts, have them set their AirDrop receiving setting to Everyone."

I had the same problem.
Then I turned on WiFi on my Mac (even though I was using a wired connection) and it works.
I wonder if there's any reason to turn off the WiFi when I'm done air-dropping...
Airdrop is much simpler than emailing yourself the file.

When I had my 2012 imac running 10.9, I could NEVER get it to work properly. Only when running a 2014 imac and 10.11 (and my iP6 running ios9) could I get it working well. I assume newer OSes and hardware work even better.
