By the time one takes into account that each iPad needs a physical keyboard just to make its screen usable, a cover of some kind to minimally protect it, and some kind of storage/recharging, the cost per student gets ridiculous - and that's all before a school district starts paying for some kind of digital curriculum … and digital management … and IT infrastructure … "the internets" doesn't count as a curriculum. The iOS environment is also very unfriendly to individual client management of all those iPads and iOS apps - so get ready to pay up for some kind of specialized solution for that, too

But hey - they're iPads

bfd probably followed the LAUSD "an iPad for every student" brouhaha from a few years back with some interest. What a fustercluck that was.
An absolute Charles Foxtrot, indeed. How much money went straight down the L.A. River on that one?
The river was Apple's bank account.

Every single college kid recently seen in a cafe that was all college kids had a Mac laptop. Not 90%, but 100%. I was actually shocked figuring that the price was keeping people away from the new models, but there they were. Also, the OS may be dictated somewhat by the university, too.

Chromebooks required in our kid's high school - students complete nearly every assignment on them.

iPads would be 2-3x the cost.

I noticed the same thing when I went back to school. I think it helps that mom and dad are paying. At the same time, I can also say that ipads didn't work well with the university website, and pc's worked better than mac. You may have seen the recent articles about iPhone users not dating an android user. Well, that matters more to many than actual utility, especially at that age. kj.
