Gene, I am sorry to hear of this. This will sound hard-hearted, but given the way you've presented the situation, I would try to enjoy what time you may have left (which is probably decent advice for all of us).
And for heaven's sake, if you can afford one of those scooter chairs, get one and go out and enjoy every sunset you can.

I don't know what your financial or health insurance situation is, but if possible I would highly recommend going to the Cleveland Clinic for a full evaluation. We traveled there for my wife's aortic valve replacement, and the expertise and level of care there is simply remarkable.
I actually thought of that, since they were rated #1 in cardiac care. My cardiologist trained and was on staff there before he set up practice in southern California. When I mentioned it to him, he said that the problem with that was even if I was seen, any further follow up care would be difficult because I live so far away. And yes, my "financial" situation wouldn't easily allow for health care so far away.
Thanks for the thought, though. As I mentioned, I had wondered about the Cleveland Clinic, myself.
I was thinking more in terms of the Cleveland Clinic evaluating you and explaining the different courses of treatment you might pursue; the actual treatment could still be implemented by your cardiologist in SoCal.
Another option is to get a MyConsult Online Medical Second Opinion from the Cleveland Clinic:

a-mouse,
Thanks for the book tip. I've got it on order at the local library.
Please get well, Gene. I'm jealous of others that got to share so-cal margaritas with you.

Gene, if you have the desire to live and to see those of us who may make thetrip to see you, by all means get your ass to Cleveland!
I have relations who have had major heart surgery at your age, and are using artificial assistance (pacemaker, pig valve).
Can someone familiar start a Go Fund Me page for Gene?
