Reminder: Affinity has 90-day free trials and all products are on sale 50% off (Adobe-alternative)...
#1
People keep asking me about Adobe-alternatives as their income declines and the Adobe suite subscription becomes less attractive.

Also, they're looking for products that can run well on older Macs. Affinity's system requirements start at macOS 10.9.

Importing InDesign documents

Affinity Publisher can import InDesign files that have been saved in IDML (InDesign Markup Language) format, which is available in InDesign CS4 and later. With earlier versions of InDesign, you can export documents to PDF and then import that format directly into Affinity Publisher...

Serif, developer of Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher, has today announced three measures aimed at helping students, photographers, designers, artists and other creatives affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

They are:

- Use Affinity apps on Mac or Windows completely free for three months, with a new 90-day downloadable trial and no obligation to buy
- A 50% discount for users who would rather buy and keep the apps, including iPad versions
- A pledge to engage more than 100 freelance creatives for work, spending the equivalent of Serif’s annual commissioning budget in the next three months. More details of this will be announced soon.

Serif Managing Director Ashley Hewson says: “Unfortunately we are hearing many stories from the creative community about how they are being severely impacted by the effects of the pandemic.

“We know we can’t solve many of these problems, but hopefully these things will make life a little easier for people who rely on creative software to make a living but may be stuck at home without access to their usual tools, or for students who might suddenly be without access to their Affinity apps on their personal devices...

I have Affinity Photo and Designer. Great alternatives to Adobe at a great price. Wish I'd gotten in on this deal.

Completely made my Mac reboot after a few hours’ usage. Affinity products are the sole software I can’t try again without a quarantined machine.

My apologies if my experience is statistically irrelevant. But I gotta shelter in place on this.

How long ago?

They had some problems a few years ago under El Cap and Sierra. Long since resolved.

I bought all 3 apps last year at some point. Been using Photo and Designer. They will be perfectly usable Photoshop and Illustrator substitutes for me. There's no question in my mind that they're a good value at full price. At this reduced cost, if I were trying to wean myself off Adobe, I would sure as heck find a way to make that happen. Can't beat the one-time cost for what are quite capable apps. Are they full, drop-in replacements for the Adobe apps today? No. But they are getting closer and closer with each release. That's good enough for my needs.

About a month ago, using Affinity Photo on Catalina which has otherwise been solid.
