BRICKseek seems pretty accurate.

When I saw the deal it said 8 in stock at my local store.

When I got home after buying two, I checked and it said 6 in stock.

How do they do that?

seriously, I think they use the website API to look up stock. Supposedly some retailers don't care about this or are too incompetent to block access.

In the case of BS, it’s done with the knowledge and cooperation of the retailers. Besides, I think the API’s are public anyway because personal web browsers need access to the data when prospective customers are browsing the site.

My store still lists 6 with a 'clearance' price.

The HD website (my local store) lists the normal price and 'This product can't be picked up in store'.

if possible, I'd go to (or call) the store.

went to the store, I asked 3 employees, no one knew for sure but told me where to look for... one said end of the aisle, the other electric, the other "by the checkouts".

I asked one of them to look it up and he could not find on on his smart phone (or whatever they carry).

On the way out I found 2 other guys chatting. I asked them, and one of them got so enthusiastic and told me they gad 3 other guys looking for this item today and that they could not find it in the entire store. He even tried to delete it from their inventory and he could not do that. he told me how the other guys went to other stores and they also could not find them.

Anyway, the store was on my way to run errands and I had to make a return so I don't feel too bad about the time wasted there.

Pretty much this.
The regular stuff was on the shelf, no reason this wouldn’t be also.
No where to be found. Going to try the other store tomorrow, says they have 3.
Needed to go to the store anyways.
Edit: the one near my in laws shows 55 in stock. Will check that store also since I need to go there to do some handyman stuff at my in-laws tomorrow anyways.
