We have one of those hand soap dispensers in our kitchen sink. I finally ran out of the cheap refill liquid soap stuff we use and I just went to buy more. Well, it's either unavailable (really? still?) or the stuff that is available is outrageously priced. I don't even care if it's the antibacterial stuff. Just as a point of reference, we used to pay about $3 for a half-gallon.
Is this the kind of thing I should look for a recipe to make my own (anyone have a favorite recipe?) or do I just have to wait it out until it becomes more plentiful again?
Jeez.

....where did you go....??
....was the shelf completely empty.....??
....if you are in a jam.....shampoo or body wash or dish washing liquid (like Dawn, Palmolive) could work for 'liquid hand soap'.....it may be a bit more expensive than hand soap but if you buy the cheapest brand.......it may work out (I don't know how much more expensive it is)....
.....Walmart's Equate brand is cheapest.....or at Target Up&Up brand........

"Equate" Brand Liquid hand soap from Wally World is essentially equivalent to SoftSoap.

If you are in Long Island, NY I can recommend a few places/times to go. Liquid hand soap has not been an issue with supply/pricing for me.

Do not buy any product with Triclosan or anything similar. It is nasty stuff. It was used as a pesticide ingredient and kids are putting it on their hands several times a day. 27 years ago I used to plead with my current GF to stop buying hand soap with that crap. It is as bad as overfeeding antibiotics to farm animals so they fatten up faster.

....I think they have removed triclosan from most products: toothpaste, etc. because it was considered bad for your health......Colgate toothpaste used to have it but they removed......

I usually just refill with the cheaper house brand dish soap.
It's usually watered down compared to Dawn.
If you have a one of those foaming type dispenser then water it down 50/50.

It disappeared from shelves entirely when the pandemic hoarding began. It is available again, but is often relatively scarce so you may have to check a few different times to find it.
I agree with Harbourmaster about Equate at Walmart. Also, costco sells 2-packs of 64oz bottles (one gallon total) of Softsoap brand for between $7-$8.
