I would buy used buy then again, I buy everything used.

A6? XC70? E320?

I'm tempted to chase down an A4 Allroad. Might still happen but part of me wonders if I'm just abusing myself. My wife and I did test drive an A4 the other day and entry level luxury felt a hell of a lot better than I expected. The A4 has a pretty good reputation for reliability at this point which surprised me.

I think the real mark of luxury is buying a new car while knowing how quickly it depreciates.

Volvo reliability worries me right now - everything but the drive train.

Heh, the E320 does come in a wagon variety. I've looked at some older wagons and have decided it would be foolish without a second car. Or a garage to do the work myself.

Maybe a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the one that can go about 40 miles on battery?

The plug-in version is called RAV4 Prime. There is a Hybrid only version too called the RAV4 Hybrid.

Everything has SUV bloat these days, even sedans, without added interior room. If you want the "wagon" thing with that sort of cargo area, more than a hatchback, SUV or crossover are all there is. Subaru Outback leans toward a wagon profile over an SUV. Impreza is smaller.

Before I changed course and went EV with my Model Y, my next car was slated to be a Subaru Outback.

One of my daughters bought a Mazda CX-5 about two years ago. Her husband is 6'4" and he can sit comfortably in the front or second row. I have driven it a couple of times and it handles well, has a nice interior and roomy enough for their road trips. She bought it new since the used models were only $1k-1.5K cheaper than new.

That's useful info. While I don't mind cramming my kids into the back of a wagon, if we get an SUV I want it to be comfortable for my future teenagers to sit back there.

Yup, Outback is like a "lifted" wagon, although it's "big". Lots of rear legroom and cargo space, but it just feels "big" to me when I drive the in-laws' (but our daily drivers are 2-door Minis...).

Volvo should still have the V60 and V90 Cross Country wagons, although at a much higher price point.

I had a rental Mazda CX-9 once, which was nice, but I thought the cargo space was lacking for a vehicle of its size. Not sure how the CX-5/50 compare, but I'm skeptical that Mazda prioritizes exterior styling over interior space.

Maybe I should drive an Outback. I've overlooked it due to wagon owner snobbishness and test driving a much older model.
