Yes, I am acutely aware that my fears are irrational and unfounded. :-D

Exactly. Check out the USDA recomendations. Albacore once a week, but the "chunk light" tuna is something like 4 servings a week are OK.

Try this stuff:

http://www.soyfoods.com/soyfoodsdescript...otein.html

(available at most higher-end groceries like a Trader Joe's, Bread and Circus, larger Stop and Shop's, etc.)

... what's nice about it (besides the health benefits, that it's dirt cheap, and that it has a really long shelf life) is that it takes on the flavor of almost anything you put it into-- so for example if you put it into chili, it's like having the meat without actually having the meat. Very interesting stuff.

TVP has been around for years. I have added it to chili and to marinara sauce, and to sloppy joe sauce. The only thing to take into consideration is the texture, so foods that have a similar texture, like in Sloppy Joes are ideal.

TVP is a main component to hamburger helper AFAIK. Great way to add protein without fat. Trader Joe's even sold a Veg Sloppy Joe mix that was TVP based, ad was quite good. But in typical Trader Joe's fashion, it was discontinued even though it was a very popular item.

A local small independant chain of grocery stores sells it in their bulk section. And a lb oif that stuff is a huge quantity. It has a slightly nutty flavor, so something flavorfull and hearty does a great job of masking it.

Just don't cut off protein from your kids. As a adult you don't need much.

Seacrest, Soylent Green isn't vegetarian ;-)

GeneL, I don't know about this Mercola fellow. A lot of what he says seems to really go against the grain of the bulk of known scientific information...
