When I was young I left my home
And went away, to Vegas With my guitar and my dreams, I had to try to play and sing, in Vegas But my momma told me I was wrong, And she begged me to stay at home But my will was strong and I had to make it big, in Vegas Chorus: They'll put my name up in lights where I play, And the lines out in front will be long, I'll get a standing ovation from the people, When I start to sing my song, When I turn 'em on in Vegas Well I've played every Honky tonk And smokey bar, in Vegas And I guess I don't have What it takes, for Las Vegas But my dreams still linger on, Oh, my faith is almost gone, But my will is strong and I've gotta make it big, in Vegas Chorus: They'll put my name up in lights where I play, And the lines out in front will be long, I'll get a standing ovation from the people, When I start to sing my song, When I turn 'em on in Vegas La la la la la la la la La la la la la la, big in Vegas. La la la la la la la la La la la la la la, big in Vegas. La la la la la la la la La la la la la, big in Vegas...

Can't tell you how many Saturday nights growing up, my dad forced us to watch Hee Haw (pre-cable TV, early 70's). After Hee-Haw, we had to watch Mannix. Must See TV?

I loved Hee Haw and Buck. That truly was good clean but hokey fun. Much better than Laugh-In. RIP buddy,

I think Buck lost credibility, but gained fame and money, when he did Hee haw. Before Hee Haw, it was Buck, Merle Haggard, George Jones and Johnny Cash, at the top of country music.
Buck had to dilute his repertoire to do the weekly show and got hugely overexposed. He was never as cool and hip (in some people's minds) as the other three after that. But, hey, he got rich.

GLOOM, DESPAIR AND AGONY ON ME
From the TV Show "Hee-Haw" (1969 -1992) Buck Owens & Roy Clark Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me We figured she was rich, loaded to the hilt And we figured she had class like the Vanderbilts 'Cause we had heard for years how she was so well reared How was we to know they meant the way she was built Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me (Transcribed by Mel Priddle - November 2005)

Was just talking about Buck yesterday, had listened to some of his music in the last few days.
I remember having breakfast at Carls Jr on Buck Owens Blvd in Bakersfield one morning. Surreal. |
