How to turn off CAPS LOCK in OSX
#1
Are you sick and tired of tyPING A SENTENCE AND HAVING IT GO INTO ALL CAPS?

Well there is an easy fix to the CAPS LOCK key and no, pliers are not a requirement.

Open System Preferences and click on the Keyboard & Mouse icon. Under the Keyboard tab, click on the Modifier Keys button. In the dropdown list next to Caps Lock, choose No Action or set the key to one of the other options.

Then Never again will you have to retype to fix things after hitting the wrong key.

When I get an electronic file from someone that typed it in all caps I copy and paste it into Tex-Edit and under tools they have change case. Then a simple copy and paste back and just check for proper names to be capitalized and it's all converted.

Also available is the Modify Selection process under the Services menu.

I once had to set up a book for a lady. She typed the whole book in upper case on the computer. Gave me hard copy. I asked for the file. She didn't have it because she didn't know how to save it on the computer. Can you imagine? Writing a whole book in upper case and not even saving the file!!!

It would be nice if 'caps lock' could be set up to require shift+caps lock key to set caps lock. That would eliminite the problem of unintended caps lock.

Is that Caps-Lock tip only for Tiger?

Yes. The tip is only for Tiger.

Panther and earlier do not have the "Modifier Keys..." button on that Preferences panel.

Thanks Ombligo, and especially thanks johnc, for the DoubleClick tip- In addition to disabling the caps lock, it just solved a longstanding issue for me w/old clamshell iBook (10.3.9), whose keyboard was designed w/no 2nd Command key, only one on L side of the space bar. The rarely (ever?)-used Enter key has now been re-born as a R-side Command key. Amen!
