Sorry, I find wholesale use of the term "ghetto-latte" racist and offensive, so the moral indignation of these same people on the question of milk over-consumption leaves me really cool. Not only that, it's really stupid. Poor people aren't paying $4 for a cup of coffee or $8 for a cup of coffee. The so-called abuse is being committed by people with plenty of money. Not that I care. At all.
Nice to have a slow news day where we work up a fuss over something so silly. But you know, threads like these is probably what drove the managment at our "other" hangout--oh all right, Dealmac--to put up the fences.
They lack a sense of humor over there.

"Hi, I'm not a judge but I play one on TV! BTW, are you over 65? If so, you should look into new Colonial Penn Life's Señor Vendi-Bravo-Showtime-Guacanero-Half-Skinny-Ensure-Xpress Lattissimo! It's the new drink for us active seniors who like a little OLÉ in what we used to call 'COFFEE'!"
Ha. I'm not disparaging SBUX (consider it for a stock buy, btw, they are going into China and Europe now from what I hear), but I guess that I, too, am just an old-school coffee achiever...I make my own most of the time and am kind of lost when it comes to those terms. Their roasts are too dark for my taste, but more power to them I guess for getting an entire customer base to speak their language as it were. I've never even seen an ad from them, and they are a dominant player. Amazing.
Me, I'm with $tevie and a few others here -- ditto what was said about losing me at "ghetto."
As for the original question, yeah, I'd personally call it unethical to go in and abuse the condiment aisle anywhere. But that's just me. For SBUX, it probably doesn't matter as their margins make up for it. Does that make it the right thing to do? No. But again, that's just me. YMMV.

Wow, your reasoning is pretty frakking over the top. LOL!!!
How is it over the top? LOL!!! Is taking a thousand packets of ketchup okay, or is it sort of bending the rules?
LOL!!!

What exactly are the odds that anyone is ever going to take a thousand packs of ketchup?
Why not just say that someone could buy a cup of water and walk out with the entire condiment stand and its contents, if you wish to use hyperbole?
And I don't think Starbucks drives most coffee shops out of business. Or at any rate, not where i live. We've got plenty of independent coffee shops in my neighborhood, including one that is locally famous for its staff being too "hip" to take care of the customers properly, and the close proximity of several Starbucks has not seemed to hurt them.

And although this may be the stupidest thread ever, the extreme positions and wild verbal gymnastics have made it a "must see" for me. ;-)

Well, $tevie, I already USED the example of people buying the 1-ounce shot of espresso and filling the remaining 19-ounce Venti cup with milk, but nobody really understood.
Somehow the "thousand packets of ketchup" just resonated. And the fact is, you CAN'T take a thousand packets of ketchup, because most fast food joints had to take away those "free" condiments due to abuse of the system.
Some people, like Elmo, DO get a "free" cup for water and fill it with Coke. That's wrong, too.
Bad children! Bad!

Are you AGAIN accusing me of being a thief? Are you AGAIN threatening the very existence of this board and of OWC?
For the record, I have never, ever asked for a cup for ice water and then filled it with anything *but* ice water.
For you to claim otherwise is for you (and this board) to accept responsibility for accusations you will then have to prove in a court of law.

What about the accusation of you being a prick? Do we have to prove that in a court of law too, or can we just agree to agree?

You don't see the difference between using condiments and taking a thousand packets of ketchup home to use later? The world must be an awfully confusing place for you, huh?
