This thread seems to be a bit harsh on Mike Bombich, who has supported the Mac community with a free cloning program (CCC) for many years. Seriously, you should at least check the program before you say that it cannot do something! Yes, CCC does incremental backups. Yes, you can schedule backups. Oh, and the interface does tell you exactly what the program is going to do. Yes, the support is fantastic. Not to belittle SuperDuper, which is also a great program- but I will only comment on CCC, as that is what I (mainly) use.

Most threads like this, the difference comes down to this;
SuperDuper has been updated more recently.
Mike has been too busy to update CCC in quite a while.
People don't like that, and don't trust software that is not actively updated.. even when it's as good as CCC is.

I use both. I'm getting into a groove where I use one for some things, the other for other stuff...
I DO like the interface of SuperDuper better.

Does the free version of SuperDuper make a bootable backup?

I've got a 200G boot drive that I want to move over to a 500G external.

The two options I'm considering are:

1) Install a new OS on the external, then just drag the small HD onto the big one and toss what I don't want

2) Clone to the 500G.

SuperDuper has the advantage of making the most accurate backups of any Mac package so that files are true dupes in every way. CCC has not been able to do that in the past. SD is worth every cent it costs. I strongly and enthusiastically recommend getting it.
