I need a new DVD player
#1
This one I have:

http://www.samsung.com/Products/DVDPlaye...222XAA.asp

is turning out to be a peice of crap. It keeps freezing up while watching a DVD. If it's too hot it's not my fault. I have it on a flat surface with LOTs of ventilation. I never saw a DVD player do this.

Anyone know of any nice psyers out there on sale? I'm looking but would love to know if anyone else out there is looking also. Or should I just get a PS3 and have Blu-Ray capability as well?

Lip,

It sounds like its defective. Still under warranty? If yes, contact Samsung to have it replaced. If you bought it with a credit card, it may be eligible for repair/replacement under the "double the warranty" type program, if the card offers it.

No, it's a few years old now purchased with a debit card. No protection left. Thanks for the idea though, Robert!

lipskidder, I have had a couple of DVD players on my "Buy My Stuff" page (see link in sig) if you're interested. They're both Sony and both have been great. IM me if you're interested.

oppo

If you are on a budget and want a dvd player that has quality upconverting and HDMI, these are the ones you want. Highly regarded on AVS forum.

I second Oppo, best DVD player I ever bought, well until I went Blu-ray, lol.

I have the 970.

All three are reviewed here: http://www.appleswitcher.com/product_rev...ode/0/id/0

I've heard good things about the Oppo players. If you need something a bit lower priced, consider the Philips upconverting players. The new 5982/37 upconverts to 1080p. I have the 5960/37 that upconverts to 1080i.

I also plays every format I can throw at it and has a USB port so you can copy files to a thumbdrive or external USB drive and play them on that.

The 5982 is the one I just chose to replace my ailing DVP642; $70 shipped from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-DVP5982-Up...B000N254LU

I agree with the Oppo 970. Highly regarded. Wish I owned it myself.

I own the Philips DVP642. Good at working with all formats but has a terrible remote and slow eject and load.

I will be replacing it with an oppo soon.
