I was online this afternoon and there was a power brown out in my basement office. The APS has been a little wonky for about a month but I thought it was ok. The mac shut down. Once power restored, I restarted the Mac and it starts up just fine; I get the chime and then the gray apple screen and the sun burst rays start to go around and then... nothing. I shuts down. I're tried it direct into an outlet, that is, not using the apc and also on another outlet -- same thing. Everything else is working fine. Anybody have any suggestions??? I can't remember how old the machine is [lafinfil, can you?] maybe 5 years old?

Can it be the battery? I had a similar problem on my g$ tower a few months back.

My G5 Tower had identical symptoms.
It was the power supply.
I bought a replacement PS on ebay and swapped it out myself.
You have to remove the processors to get at it though.
