I think when I was 5 I wanted a Schwinn Sting-Ray Krate bike. Still do, actually.

Trust me, those things kick ass. They're a bit pricey, but worth it. My Mom had a couple of them for the grandkids; one a big-wheel height and the other was taller, I think. Regardless, the kids loved riding them up and down her long driveway (she had one of those driveways that ran from the street, all along the side of the house, and way to the back of the property line; it seemed 100 yards but I know it wasn't). Sturdy enough for me to ride on (there's foot rests on the back bar, if you look) either with the kids or by myself (I never hesitated to offer to bring them in when the kids left them out; I could get some serious speed up on them).

Miss those things (mom lost them along with the house, more or less, to Katrina -- I don't doubt they survived, per se; long story).

A friend of mine still owns his Grey Ghost and show it along with his tricked out 1966 Mustang convertible at local car shows...

It's the last image in this slide show... http://homepage.mac.com/mmsan2c/PhotoAlbum4.html

I don't remember the Grey Ghost. I do remember the Apple Krate and Orange Krate. My brother had the "Lemon Peeler" version. That thing was absurdly heavy. Even though it had a five speed derailleur setup it was ridiculous for climbing hills. All style and zero substance.

Got this for Christmas. Similar. 1952? I am old. Schwinn Roadmaster.

Considering the amount of damage we did with our chunky plastic Big Wheels, me or my brother would be dead if we had one of those metal trikes.
