Re: Apple TV Take 2. I think Steve was smart NOT to pick Blu Ray or HD DVD. Let the studios fight that battle. I'm sure that's how he got them all on board for movie rentals. But whatever the winner is - you know it'll included in Take 3, and the Wireless Home Digital Revolution will be complete.

[quote sscutchen]The 24 hr movie rental limit is odd... (yeah, I know... 30 days to Start Watching)

Why not more like a couple of days or so, so you could digest it and watch it again.

Movies like The Fountain will be brutal.

Also, really cuts down on, say, kids watching something and then telling 'rents, "you gotta see this"... "OK, how 'bout Thursday..."

24 seems really random and short.
the 24hrs within 30 days is nothing new. exactly how Amazon UnBox to Tivo works. perhaps this is a limitation the studios feel comfortable with for downloads.

And what's with the .16" / .76" cr@p? So what if the screen is only .16" thick compare to Sony's .8? Sheesh.

I agree that Apple was wise to not get into the next-gen disc format war. Besides the uncertainty involved as to which format would win, both formats require extremely onerous end-to-end DRM that I'm sure Apple was loathe to implement. Bypassing the whole mess with digital online delivery makes a whole lot of sense, and I think that's going to beat out both physical optical media and traditional cable/satellite in the long run.

Apple did a lot today to make AppleTV a more viable product. Solid new features and a lower price will move a lot more units.

The stock market as a whole is down over 180 points today. And buy on rumors, sell on news.

I'll reiterate that I'm not so sure the MacBook Air market niche is all that big, but all those moaning and groaning about it missing some port or other: you are clearly not part of that niche and should just stick to a full-sized laptop. Me, I'll keep using my 12" PowerBook G4, though my iPhone actually fulfills most of my portable needs now.

Of course. Even with USB2 limitations, I've yet to see the 480mbit ethernet connection anywhere except cable company with an OC 12 or similar business!

it's not wired gigabit ethernet for file transfers, but it is half that..... which is 5x 10/100. I think the Core2 can handle that load, managing USB. No micro-FW port is what I can't figure out.

This requires you to abandon all previous systems and truly get on the very latest and greatest.
