I have a 16gb iPhone, and given the current rumors (i.e. current iPhone model has been discontinued in UK) it seems to me that we'll have a new iPhone on our hands any day now (or at least by mid-June), with some or all of GPS, videochat, 3G, more memory, etc. likely. I'm loath to give mine up for even a day, but it seems to me that the time to unlock, jailbreak and ebay it is now so I'll have the cash for the new version. Ebay completed auctions are currently running around $600 and I'd guess that will plummet when the new one is announced. I have a spare RAZR that I can use in the meantime.
Any reason I should/shouldn't do this? Does anyone know if I can use my current SIM in my RAZR?

I really don't know anything about iphones. But historically, for macs generally, is there any evidence that ebay values for used products by Apple fall after new products are announced? I never shop on ebay, but when I have looked I am struck by how many people are buying and selling old used Apple products for close to and sometimes even more than you can buy latest version new. So I have never noticed any collective rationality in ebay pricing.
So I would personally keep your iphone and see what comes out. I am just not convinced that your resell value will be that much different, and I am almost 100% sure that we will complain about something with the new iphone.

I'd say yes, selling now is a great strategy. I imagine once the new iPhone is release there will be a flood of used iPhones to hit eBay and a lot less demand for it (people will want the 3G version).

I think I'd sell.
Although why people are paying more than list, I don't know.

Well, I am a scoundrel but it's only frozen up twice (both instances within about 10 minutes of one another). I'm currently inclined to believe it was a random event. So $tevie, are you going to sell or keep your iPhone? For myself, I really would love to have GPS (I am often out of edge signal range) and videochat would be a killer application I could use to talk to my english relatives.
As to vicrock's comment re paying more than list, I think it is because people want a jailbroken/unlocked phone and don't realize that it costs very little to do that.

I will be keeping mine. It can already do more than I need my phone to do! And so far I've never had a problem with reception -- except for inside Whole Foods (and nobody's cell phones work in that Whole Foods, I think they may have blocked them like the health club across the street did).

Add me to the list of people who will be keeping theirs... though if they offered me a trade-up, I'd probably take it, as I'm nearly maxed out on my 8GB capacity.
