Great, now they have blocked Google!

Well, the IS dept strikes again, Google is on the no-no list as of 0200 this morning.
We use it all the time for actual work related stuff. Wonderful.

Why?

Good question.
They filter out "social networking" sites, and now that is what is popping up when you try and access Google.
Ask.com works fine, as does Yahoo.

How about a strong WiFi card, and connect to the coffee shop across the street.

Or get a job in the private sector, instead of the State Department, or wherever it is they have you locked up.

The "Private Sector" filters the intrawebs as well.

I am in the private sector.

We do have a public wifi system as well as the secure corporate one, but I would have to bring another laptop to work to surf with.
The corporate computers are locked into the secure system.

On further exploration, Gmail and GIS work, as does Google News.
Seems only the search portal is blocked, weird.

Sux . . .
I'm glad I don't have the extra expense for now, but if I was ever trapped at a job without real access for whole days I'd probably get an iPhone.
