Trying Autumn again
#1
Just an old log in the woods. I love the colors that appear in the autumn. It's either nature's way of compensating us for the coming winter or her way of softening us up for the kill.

In near-by Shelburne Falls there is a spot known as the potholes. There used to be a falls here, where the natives had a designated peace area where members of various tribes could hang and hunt without getting an arrow in the gizzard. Since the Deerfield was dammed up, the action of hard rock on softer rock has been revealed.
It used to be a great swimming place until the town got worried about lawsuits and the emergency crews got tired of hauling out of there overweight drunks who broke a leg or banged a head.

That dark area on the upper left is a spot where I have jumped in feet first with the idea of going down fast and finding the bottom. i never did.

Those round pot holes can be formed by whirlpools and also underwater just from high speed water. They call em kettle pots or something else like that when they are formed that way.

There's a ledge (natural formed, not a quarry) , very narrow spire of granite, near me with a 'pond' at the base that divers haven't found the bottom of. (I doubt if anyone had real deep water equipment). They do find cars occaisionally. The water is cooooooold. Even in September.

I'm a bit south of you and we're not quite at peak yet.
Pines just dropped the Fall needles and swamp maples are just starting to drop thier leaves. Should accelerate this weekend with the colder weather.
Tomato leaves turned black last night.

Great stuff, thanks!
My new workplace is on the border of one of the "great" Chicago parks that was originally planted (1870s) as sort of an arboretum-- been loving the view from the 6th floor rooms.
Should probably plan a last basil harvest/pesto batch for tomorrow.

No BW warning here, as I took this the other day while walking the dog at our regular spot. Cheap camera phone, but you get the idea.
