Maybe they're going for that "classic" Batman 3 vibe.
They might go with nipple-rings on the costumes this time, just to update it.

I've always said that in the previous Batman series, Jim Carrey and Jack Nicholson were much better suited to each other's roles; That is, Jim as The Joker (a role that, if true to the comic books, would seem to have been written with Carrey's manic energy and off-beat sense of humor in mind, not to mention that Carrey even physically resembles The Joker with no makeup on at all) and Jack as The Riddler (a role that calls for a much more calculating, deliberate, and unquestionably evil portayal), but Carrey's career hadn't progressed far enough at the time for that casting to have taken place.
It seems that once again, the producers have taken the "low road" of manic energy and laughs over a truly chilling portrayal of what should be one of Batman's greatest and most challenging foes.

How bad is it gonna be if he does the trademark Eddie laugh!?!?! That would be disturbing. I'll try and keep an open mind as both of the last two films have been quite good. Let's just say they've earned my trust.
