Largest ATA/IDE notebook HDD?
#1
250GB? I have an empty 2.5" firewire case that I'd like to fill, but the prices don't hunt... $80 shipped for a bare 250GB drive is more than a larger SATA drive with a case.

Yes, the 250GB Western Digital.

Other than WD, nobody else seems to make larger than 160GB.

320 gig 2.5" SATA is $55 (after rebate) + $35 for a 2.5 FW case is almost the same cost...

Because the market has gone to sata you won't see much in the way of bargains on the 250gb ata disks. They are now in the "esoteric" area and not the mainstream consumer market. If you want capacity, buy a new drive with an enclosure. If you want to use your old firewire case - bite the bullet and get the 250gb now.

Yeah, I got the same dilemma. A nice OWC FW case with a now-puny 60 gigger. I hopped on the train and went USB. 500gb 2.5" LaCie for $99.
