Well, the gas company wants $1145 to move the meter. I have to clarify if they will dig a new trench and put down new pipe, or simply run a line through the old pipe. One plumber (no surprise) suggests they do the latter and that their service is a ripoff.
Two plumbers have been by and are working on their estimates. One of them (the one who says the gas co. service is a rip) is pointing to a bunch of other stuff inside the house (e.g. furnace flue) that may need to be brought up to code before the city will OK having the gas turned back on. I wonder if this is a $$ grab on their part or a real thing. This plumber also wants to get started tomorrow. He seems competent but I don't trust him.
