Windows Virtual Memory (work PC)
#14
I'm guessing your biggest problem is the ancient 20GB IDE drive in your PC. No doubt it's 5400RPM with a paltry cache. Coupled with the meagre RAM allotment on your Pentium 3 1Ghz or P4 1.6Ghz CPU and you're in a world of hurt despite XP.

You may be able to turn off System Restore to free up a little disk space but you have enough space free.

Have you considered getting your boss to pay for the upgraded components and/or if not buying your own? Without knowing more about the system type I can't imagine that a gig of RAM would cost more than $40 and you could pick up an inexpensive, fast and capacious SATA drive (if the system can support SATA) for another $40.

But then if you're sinking that much an Atom-based system does have merit on the basis of power consumption; from the workflow you indicated it should have enough processing power.
