Are certificates the new advanced degrees?

Certifications are global, and standardized, and widely available to those who are qualified and/or willing to put in the work.

Degrees are local, and non-standard, and available to only a few, regardless of the school or program chosen.

Each certainly has its place. The certification market certainly doesn't have the maturity that hundreds of years of college degree evolution has. Or the inertia.
