New iMacs arriving in broken condition
#11
The correct method for packaging an LCD is to have the panel floating in the middle with air around it and the supports be on the outside corners.

And this is exactly how Apple packages the iMacs. The Apple box was fairly stout, so even though there was a gash in it, nothing reached the screen. It was poorly packed in a much larger box by Amazon or their fulfillment center.

When I my MDD from Apple, it came in a sturdy box that was in an slip-fit plain brown wrapper-box. This made for pretty sturdy shipping. FedEx, no scuffs, scrapes, or gouges.

On a different tangent, I just got my Magic Mouse. It came in a very plain cardboard box with a plastic case. Not the unboxing experience I've come to expect. This is more like a refurb.
