The one time I prepared for a big fight with Apple was when the screen went on my MBP. I sent it back, and they told me (by email) that the repair would not be covered under warranty because the problem was due to misuse. I called up expecting the worst. My call got escalated pretty quickly, and before I got a chance to get huffy, the supervisor said, "Our technicians think this was the result of damage caused by misuse. Nevertheless, I'm going to fix this for you under warranty." The computer came back the next day, fixed and looking like new.
I've had many other Applecare experiences, but this one stands out.
I can't say much about the quality of their products, but from my vantage point, their service remains excellent.
