I'm talking about now. The MacBook is four months old. IBM sold out to Lenovo for personal computers. In simple terms, Apple designs computers, not manufactures them. Also, in simple terms, Dell just assembles computers from others parts.

Now I am talking in the most simple terms and not talking about patents or proprietary designs here. The thing that sets Apple aside is, Apple has it's own operating system to go along with the computers/hardware it designs.

Since this is the present, IBM computers, hard drives and OS/2 can't be taken into account. As others have said, he just needs to get the drive replaced.
