I cancelled Vonage after using them for a year or so after constant rate hikes (started with the 500-minute plan for 14.99 plus fees, ended up paying close to $24 when I quit about a year later). Am currently with another VOIP provider paying $13/month with fees included for unlimited. Just bought an Ooma which will have no monthly fees, and am looking forward to getting that hooked up sometime after the first of the year.
Vonage seems to be going the way of Verizon and other phone companies--jacking up fees for even the most basic service. I don't really consider them an alternative to traditional phone service anymore.
Lots of folks have good things to say about the Ooma, and it seems like it will simplify and make even more affordable basic home phone service. We'll see how it goes...
